Web design
wvheadstart.org
In designing the website for West Virginia Headstart, I intended to create an inviting and uplifting experience for the user, understanding the organization’s mission to support families who are in great need and that potential users are such families seeking help, which can be a heavy and intimidating moment. The visual design is graphic and vivid, making use of familiar interlocking geometric shapes in a tetrahedron motif, which speaks to not only the organization’s work with young children but the idea of foundational and integrated needs and supports that we all have and rely on. I was especially struck by the stories of families and individuals who are part of the West Virginia Headstart community and were to be featured on the site through written content and photography. Wanting to highlight and create a special encounter with these individuals, I designed unique horizontal scrolling page to exhibit each story in a way that stood out from the other information pages of the site.
